How Times Have Changed!

The Skip Hire industry has historically been blighted by a very negative public image, for an industry which has undergone many changes over the last few years. The public perception of excessive pricing, unreliable service and fly tipping “cowboys” has masked over the great improvement in areas such as Health and Safety and Waste Management which have long been top of the government’s agenda.

Even though those days are long gone, the masses of well run respectable companies have suffered form the regulatory and legal back lash which has increased the cost base of the industry quite dramatically. While Skip locks, Skip nets, Skip lights and Skip ramps are all very helpful, they need to be financed - something which the business and private Skip Hire customers seem loath to consider. This has resulted in many Skip Hire companies taking out Commercial Mortgages to enable them to plan for the future.

Skip Hire employees are now very visible in their Safety Clothing , which to many companies has resulted in reduced damage and accident claims. The industry is more structured and aware of possible legal implications of claims against them - claims which would historically have been laughed out of court.

While the Skip industry offers a useful tool to ensure that the immediate environment is not littered, changes in waste management regulations have resulted in a new tail end to the process. When Skips are recalled after the hire period is up, many firms have taken to using Screen Trommels to sort the waste further, recycle where possible, and hopefully reduce their contribution to the UK land fill problem.

The land fill situation has been a growing concern for some time, and while the Skip Hire industry is responding to the problem, there will always be certain elements of client waste which cannot be recycled. This often leaves them with no alternative but to send the remaining waste to land fill sites, which are becoming more and more expensive.
